Fun Fact Friday

1. You may have seen the above picture in my PL layout a few weeks back.  Every day this picture stares at me because the bebe has somehow made it my computer screen's background.  I'm not sure how he managed that.  Do you know how long it took me to figure out how to change my background way back when?  This bebe somehow did it without blinking an eye!   This is his "gonna eat you" face.  I crack up EVERY time I see this picture!

2. Good deed of the day:  I saw a worm slithering across the sidewalk.  I walked past it a few times, but it didn't seem to be getting anywhere.  I couldn't handle the thought of this poor worm drying out on the cement so...yes...I saved it!  I placed it on some nearby dirt.  Surely it was thankful for being rescued by a human.  Although, it was probably uttering to itself "This is NOT where I was headed, crazy woman.  Let me be!"  Pay it forward, worm.  Pay it forward!

3. Logan isn't a big fan of bugs.  He likes looking at them, but that's it.  They need to keep their distance.  The other day he found a spider...one that was dead, mind you.  He wouldn't let it be.  He kept staring at it and wanted me to do something.  Being the mother that I am, I just sat there.  He decided to take matters into his own hands.  He took off his boots, put them on his HANDS, and gently smashed up the spider!  I so wish I would've captured that on film...okay, SD card!

4. Merisa was a participant in her school's spelling bee.  Have I mentioned how she's quite the speller?  This proud mama attended the event with video camera in hand.  Let me tell you it was the most nerve-racking experience of my life!  My stomach was in knots as each kid got up to spell their word!  I couldn't handle the thought of anyone being buzzed for an incorrect spelling.  It was HORRIBLE!  Horrible, I tell you!  I think I was more nervous than any of the kids!  I should be banned from such events...especially since I managed to take a picture with the FLASH on while one little person was in the midst of spelling!  Yep, total distraction!  I felt awful, but the little man spelled away and made it to the next round.  Oh, Merisa did quite well.  She was in the top five...only older students were left in the fierce competition when she was buzzed!  I'm SO proud!

5. So I'm NOT a farm-girl by nature.  A tractor to me is what most call a lawn mower.  I've learned A LOT since being married about this thing I'll call country life.  EVERY day is quite an eye-opening experience!  I thought a "honey wagon" was just that...a wagon that delivered honey! (And if you don't know and you're brave, google it!)  Am I getting my point across?  I might be what some call a "tree hugger" ... I saved a WORM for pete's sake!  So you might be surprised when I tell you...I caught myself researching CHICKEN breeds on the internet!  Seriously, me...of all people...ME!  I've somehow been roped in and now I'm trying to decide between Easter Eggers and Black Silkies.  How did this happen?!

*Crazy Fact:  The Easter Eggers lay "colored eggs" and the Silkies have feathers on the their feet and look oh so cute!  No joke!

Our Year In Review...

(This post is a few days old, but I decided to share it anyway.  Better late than never, right?!)

As a new year approaches, I always like to look back and reflect on all of the events that took place.  It's been an eventful year to say the least, and I wanted to share the highlights of our last year with you.  It was very hard to choose which moments to include, especially since I was pregnant for the first half of the year.  In case you didn't know, I'm one of those crazy, dramatic, forget everything kind of pregnant people. If only I was blogging back then...could you even imagine?! =)

Without further ado, here's the BEST of 2011...

January
I realized I didn't take many pictures. Ummm...morning sickness!  Anyway, Matt & Merisa were in full farmer mode.  Bring on the rabbits and chickens and...

February
We got snowed in and realized that this is a little more problematic when living in the country.  Can you say SNOW DRIFTS?!
March
It came to our attention that Logan might be the busiest little boy ever.  Good thing he's just so darn CUTE!

April
Somehow we acquired more and more animals!  How is this possible?!

May
"Chantilly lace and a pretty face"...Merisa's 4th dance recital!  She LOVES the stage!

June
Miss Merisa turned EIGHT!  Where did the time go?
(Posing for the camera that day wasn't something she really wanted to do...can you tell?!)

July
We welcomed the birth of our third child two weeks early.  Mr. Levi was our second largest baby weighing in at 8lbs. 3oz.

August
Mr. Logan crept up on us all and turned TWO!  Being pregnant with a toddler is quite the adventure!  I give y'all kudos if you've done this...it's crazy HARD!

September
Logan gave us yet another scare resulting in a HUGE gash in his nose!  After much panic (mostly by me!), he has healed although the scar is still there.

October
A pretty witch, scarecrow, and giraffe gallivanted around town in order to share their tricks for a little treat.
(Yes, that's Matt's hand holding on Logan's hat!)

November
This month started our first holiday adventures as a family of five! On Thanksgiving Day, Merisa ran in her 3rd race...the Turkey Trot!  She ran ONE MILE and has done this almost every year since she was 4!
(Nope, that isn't her time.  The clock was set for the 5k runners who started earlier.  She was so fast that I almost missed her crossing the line!)

December
Many blessings too numerous to count!  Thank you all for everything you've done to help us out along the way!

Happy New Year!  May God bless you in 2012!

Sic 'Em on a Chicken...

So if you have a farm background, please ignore my stupidity and irrational urge to be over-dramatic!  Okay, my husband may say that it's not really an "urge"...more like a reality...seeing how I act upon it every chance I get.  I can't help it, seriously!

Anyway, I wanted to tell you a tale about a rooster.  This beautiful, black and white striped rooster who "cock-a-doodle-dos" every morning, every night...heck, any second he can!  He's stunning and gorgeous (especially to his hens).  He parades around the farm keeping an eye on his flock...making sure they are well-fed and not harmed.  He is a spectacular creature to watch...

Really?!  Not any more!  Mind you, he stands about 2 1/2 feet high (I'm just guessing, people), but it does seem like he looks Logan in the eye.  They (we somehow have 2 roosters!) have attacked the children, but never in my presence.  Well, I made the mistake of encountering one of these roosters.

Logan and I were walking side-by-side on our way to see his dad on the mower.
The rooster was in our path.
We made eye contact.
He straightened his neck, cock-a-doodle-do-ed and gave me an evil eye.  It was like a stand-off in one of those old western movies only I didn't have a gun.
I could sense his aggression.
He only waited momentarily and charged.
He was going to peck holes in me like Swiss cheese.
He could sense that I despised chickens.
He came running at me.
I ran towards Matt screaming at the top of my lungs.
Logan ran with his little legs as fast as he could.
I grabbed Logan and ran onto the lawn mower in order to escape the wrath of the rooster.
I had no idea if he would stop so I kept yelling "Get the rooster.  Get the rooster!!"

Mind you, Matt just laughed at the sight of his wife running and screaming in hysteria.  Did he not see the anger in the rooster's eyes? How he was going to peck me to death?  Who cares if he only stands a couple feet tall, weighs only a pound or two, and doesn't possess any arms?  Not me.  I knew this thing was/is a savage beast.   I continued to panic as I could sense the rooster getting closer.  Matt stood up to protect his family. (More like he fell off of the tractor...oh, wait! lawn mower...laughing hysterically, which startled the bird!)  The rooster crowed in obedience to his "master" and returned to his flock.

Seriously, why does this beast obey him and not me?  I just don't get it! :)  Maybe...just maybe...he's heard me singing Zac Brown Band's song...Sic 'Em on a Chicken.

Green Acres is the place for me...

Ha, Ha!  If you know me at all, you're probably laughing so hard that you fell out of your chair!  I'm not exactly the farm type, and yet, here I sit...living on the farm!

So every day is a new experience for me.  Things I never experienced before in my life nor did I ever think I ever would.  I'm sure my husband never thought people like me really existed, but here I am! We are the real-life version of "Green Acres". (And if you don't know that show, then I'm even older than I thought I was!)

So this morning, I find my daughter on the porch like this...

Yep, she's holding her new favorite chicken...Sweetie.  She named it today (I guess "it" is really a "her").  It's hard to notice in the picture, but she is also wearing overalls!  She LOVES overalls...and chickens!  I never thought I'd have a farm-loving, overall-wearing daughter.  Where's that girly-girly I always thought I'd have?  ;)

And Logan isn't helping the cause either.  Not only does he love the chickens, he LOVES tractors!  The word "loves" is an understatement, too.  He is so obsessed with tractors.  His tractors are always lined-up across our living room floor.  And DO NOT touch them!  He'll have a total breakdown if you do!

So the other day, Matt took him for a ride on a REAL tractor...not a lawnmower...which in my book is a "real tractor!"  Let's just say the boy was in awe.  I'm surprised he got off the tractor so easily and without any meltdowns.  I think Matt's opened a can of worms, though...that's all Logan wants to do anymore...ride on daddy's tractor!

Nonetheless...my kids love the farm life.  Who would've thought my kids would be farm kids?! ;)  Oh, did I mention that the chickens scare me to death....that's another story (cause I'm pretty sure they HATE me!).
