Happy Hunger Games...

The Hunger Games
..."And may the odds be ever in your favor.”

The Hunger Games...I'm proud to say that I actually finished reading this book.  Heck, I've even read the second book.  Oh, wait.  There's more!  I've begun the third book in the series!  I'm expecting to finish it in the next day or two.  Stunning!

See, an avid reader I am not.  I used to read once upon a time.  Okay, I still technically "read". I just burying my face in magazines, newspapers, and personal gossip found on the internet instead of in a real "book".

At some point when they started making reading mandatory in school, I REBELLED!  Yep, refusing to read books in high school and turning to good ol' Cliff was the extent of my teenage rebellion!  Oh, wait!  One time, I didn't "peg" my pants and wore them loose where they actually touched my shoes.  GASP!

I did pick up a few books and made it through them back in the day, but when trying to comprehend Crime and Punishment, I found it a bit difficult to follow the "adventures" of Raskolnikov and Razumikhin.  Those names aren't exactly user friendly.  Okay, I lied.  I actually did read this book and thoroughly enjoyed...but you get my point.  Reading just isn't my thing.

Until now.

I kept hearing about a little book called The Hunger Games.  A friend of mine said it was a great book, and I should give it a try.  In my head, I laughed 'cause everyone knows that it took me 2 YEARS to finish Twilight...not the series...just the FIRST book, Twilight!  I've got serious commitment issues, people!

Then, out of nowhere, I saw the complete set of The Hunger Games sitting on my husband's desk!  What?!  I felt like it was a sign, and for some unknown reason, I was compelled to read just the FIRST book...or so I thought!

I picked up the book during Spring Break and found it IMPOSSIBLE to put down!  Seriously!  I read it overnight, which is beyond amazing for me!  Two YEARS to read Twilight, remember?!

I even amazed my husband..."amazed" may not be HIS word of choice, but I'll go with it!  See, I'm pretty sure he owns more books than a library, and he's read all of them!  (Or at least most of them.)

And then, there's our daughter...since my new reading addiction, Merisa has been saying "Why are YOU reading?  You NEVER read!  It's so weird to see YOU reading"  I'm glad I can still surprise her.  Expect the unexpected!

Shocked with the fact that I actually finished a book, I found it impossible to resist the temptation of the second book in the series.  So I read that one, too...finished it overnight once again!  Between my reading and new love for chickens, I'm starting to think I've been altered by aliens or something!

Anyway, I've started the third book, Mockingjay, and I must say these books are GREAT!  They are a super fast read.  The books are quite suspenseful, which keeps me committed to actually finishing them.  I'm not in love with the idea that kids are part of a governmental "game" where they fight to the death, but in my head, I just pretend they're older than 12.  I can cope with that better.

I won't go into details in case you haven't read them.  What?  You haven't read The Hunger Games?!  How is that possible?  You MUST get a copy and start reading.  What are you waiting for?  Walk away from your computer...and pick up the BOOK!  You won't regret it.  I promise!

“You’ve got about as much charm as a dead slug.”  - LOVE IT!

When I'm done with series, what am I to do? I need to find something else just as addicting to read!  Any suggestions?!

*Side note:  I haven't seen the movie yet.  I can't decide if I should or not.  I'm thinking yes, but who knows.  Maybe it will be a little date night for me and the hubby.  We'll see.

  1. Percy Jackson. Super-fast reads - even more so than Hunger Games.

And... after reading Hunger Games (the first book), I picked up what I thought was the next one and got really mad. Decided I would never read the rest of the series. Ever.

Turns out skipping from the first to the third book is quite confusing ... and not a good idea. :)

    1. That's too funny! I can totally see myself doing the exact same thing! =)

And I'll have to give Percy Jackson a shot! Thanks for the suggestion. Oh, I also rec'd your "chicken mail" today so I'll be reading that tonight! Thanks for the stories!
